SPAZIO A+A in collab with Studio Minus & students
Experimental studio, Romania
SPAZIO A+A is an experimental studio drawing lines in-between art and architecture, design and research. It was founded in 2023 in Bucharest by architects Matei Eugen Stoean and Andreea Mihaela Chircă.
Matei Eugen Stoean, PhD, combines architectural practice with an academic career at UAUIM since 2012, at the Design Studio department. His portfolio includes projects in Germany (Munich, Karlsruhe, Heidelberg), Paris, and Bucharest, alongside international postdoc research projects conducted at Accademia di Romania (Rome) and Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität & Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte (Munich). His work earned awards at the Bucharest Architecture Annual (2021, 2022) and the Beta Biennial (2024); nominations for the European Prize for Urban Public Space (2024) and the National Architecture Biennial (2021); and constant presences at Romanian Design Week (2013, 2019, 2020, 2023).
Andreea Mihaela Chircă, PhD, is an architect, curator, writer, researcher and has been teaching theory of architecture at UAUIM since 2020. She has developed her doctoral thesis through two research residencies in Rome, at Sapienza Università di Roma. Internationally, she was invited as a juror and tutor at multiple workshops in Italy. Andreea is collaborating with /SAC (Spațiul de Artă Contemporană) Bucharest, being the coordinator and curator of the exhibition 'CELLA/kamera. Alexander Brodsky at Malmaison' in the summer of 2025. Additionally, through @poiesis of space, she curates a virtual gallery of (non-) architectural references meant to trigger a critical visual consciousness.
Studio Minus is an office founded in Timișoara in 2007 by architect Camil Milincu with Otilia Tudoran joining at a later stage. Initially established for architecture and interior design, the studio has shifted its primary focus to experimental furniture and collectible design. Their approach privileges the honest use of materials and their natural aging, aiming to question the boundaries between art and functional design. By prioritizing creative freedom over commercial expansion, their work has evolved into a collection of unique objects. Studio Minus has achieved notable success with 'The Stalker' (Bronze A' Design Award and Bronze IDA Design Award), 'Technē' (Honorable Mention at the IDA Awards), and 'Reliquary' (Winner at the 2024 SIT Furniture Design Award). Both architects are professors at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism in Timișoara (FAUT).
